Authorities are investigating a deadly early morning shooting that erupted during a post-prom gathering on the near north side of Indianapolis, leaving one person dead and three others injured.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched around 12:45 a.m. on May 3 to the 4000 block of North Park Avenue, near North College Avenue and 38th Street, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located at least one individual at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police say that shortly after the initial response, two additional victims arrived at Methodist Hospital with gunshot injuries. Investigators believe those individuals were also wounded during the same incident at the North Park Avenue residence.
Preliminary findings indicate the shooting occurred during a post-prom party held at a short-term rental home. A large crowd, including teenagers, had gathered at the residence when gunfire broke out, causing panic and sending attendees fleeing. Authorities also reported that another individual was injured while attempting to escape the chaotic scene.
In total, three people sustained gunshot wounds. One victim died as a result of their injuries, another remains in critical condition, and a third suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Family members have identified the deceased as Brittany Grundy. Loved ones are now mourning her loss, describing it as devastating as the community grapples with the sudden and tragic death.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office is expected to determine the official cause and manner of death.
As of now, police have not released information regarding any suspects or a possible motive. Detectives continue to collect evidence and interview witnesses as the investigation remains ongoing.
