Marcus Thomas Sprint Car Racing Accident: Further details released after fatal World of Outlaws incident at Kennedale Speedway Park

Marcus Thomas Sprint Car Racing Accident: An official was killed and another seriously injured Saturday night after two emergency vehicles collided while responding to an incident during a race event in Texas, authorities and race organizers said.

The crash occurred during a race organized by World of Outlaws at Kennedale Speedway Park, a well-known dirt racing venue located just outside Fort Worth. Event officials said emergency responders were heading toward the track’s infield to assist following an on-track crash when the two response vehicles collided.

In a statement released after the incident, the World of Outlaws confirmed that one official died and another sustained serious injuries. Organizers did not immediately release the names of the individuals involved.

“There is an ongoing investigation of the incident. The remainder of the event was postponed,” the series said in its statement. “Everybody in the racing community, and those affected, appreciates your thoughts and prayers.”

Multiple reports indicate that sprint car driver Marcus Thomas had flipped his car moments before the scheduled “last chance showdown,” a qualifying race that determines which drivers advance to the main event. Emergency crews reportedly rushed toward the infield to respond to that crash when the two vehicles collided.

It was not immediately clear what caused the emergency vehicles to crash or the condition of the injured official beyond reports that the injuries were serious.

Race officials halted the event following the collision, and spectators were informed that the remainder of the night’s program would not continue. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident as the racing community mourns the loss.
